Foamex vs Correx: Which Signage Material Should You Order First?

Foamex vs Correx: Which Signage Material Should You Order First?

If you’ve searched “foamex vs correx,” you’ve probably landed on half a dozen sites all explaining the technical differences between the two materials. That’s useful — but if this is your first time ordering signage, what you actually need is a quick way to decide which one is right for your job. Here’s the short version, followed by the detail if you want it.

The one-line answer

Correx is for short-term, budget, outdoor use. Foamex is for anything that needs to look more polished or last longer. If you’re still unsure after that, read on.

What’s the actual difference?

Correx is corrugated plastic — the same fluted structure as cardboard, but made from polypropylene instead of paper. It’s extremely lightweight, genuinely weatherproof for a shorter period, and cheap to produce in bulk. Because of the corrugation, the surface isn’t perfectly flat, so very fine detail or small text can lose a bit of sharpness up close. This is the material behind almost every estate agent “For Sale” or “To Let” board you’ve ever seen.

Foamex is a rigid PVC foam board — smooth, solid, and denser than Correx. It gives a noticeably more premium finish, holds detail and colour better, and is more durable both indoors and outdoors. It costs more than Correx, but for anything representing your brand at close range, the difference in finish is obvious side by side.

When to choose Correx

  • Estate agent boards, “To Let” or construction site signage
  • Short campaigns or temporary promotions (think weeks to a few months outdoors)
  • Large quantities where budget matters more than finish
  • Signs that need to be easy to carry, move, or reposition
  • Anything viewed from a distance rather than up close

When to choose Foamex

  • Shopfront or reception signage that needs to look professional
  • Exhibition stands and event graphics
  • Anything displayed indoors, or outdoors for several months to a couple of years
  • Signage with fine detail, small text, or photography
  • Anywhere the sign is part of how customers judge your brand

A quick gut check

Ask yourself: “Will someone be standing close enough to notice the surface texture, and does this need to last?” If yes to either, go Foamex. If it’s a short-term, budget-driven job where visibility from a distance is all that matters, Correx will do the job for a lot less money.

What about durability?

Correx is genuinely weather-resistant, but it’s built for a shorter working life outdoors — typically a matter of months rather than years, depending on exposure. Foamex handles the elements considerably better and is the go-to for signage that needs to survive a proper UK winter. Neither is fully indestructible outdoors long-term — if you need something to last 5+ years exposed to the weather, ask about Dibond aluminium composite instead, which is built specifically for long-term external use.

One thing agencies and repeat buyers should know

If you’re ordering signage regularly for different clients or locations, it’s worth agreeing a default spec with your printer up front — material, thickness, and finish — so every job doesn’t start from scratch. It speeds up quoting and keeps costs predictable across multiple jobs.

Still not sure which one your job needs?

That’s exactly what we’re here for. Tell us what the sign is for, roughly how long it needs to last, and where it’s going — indoors, outdoors, close-up or from a distance — and we’ll recommend the right material before you order. Get in touch with Citiprint for a same-day quote and honest advice on what you actually need, not just what’s easiest to sell you.

Ready for 2026

As we move into 2026, one thing is clear at Citiprint: we’re doubling down on speed, quality, and keeping everything in-house.

Over the past year, we’ve continued to invest heavily in our production setup so we can say yes to more complex jobs, tighter deadlines, and larger projects, without compromising on finish or reliability. Whether you’re planning an exhibition, fitting out an office, or working on a time-critical production, we’re fully geared up and ready.

Precision Cutting with Our New Summa F1612

A major upgrade for us going into 2026 is the installation of our Summa F1612 flatbed cutting system.

Signs

This allows us to:

  • Cut boards accurately to any shape

  • Handle complex curves, lettering, and custom designs

  • Deliver a far cleaner, more consistent finish than hand cutting

  • Turn jobs around faster, even under tight deadlines

From Foamex, Correx and ACM to custom display panels and signage, machine cutting gives a professional, repeatable finish that’s ideal for:

  • Events and exhibitions

  • Film & TV set build and props

  • Offices, retail spaces, and commercial interiors

It’s a big step forward in what we can offer — and it means more control, better quality, and quicker turnaround for our clients.

Built for Fast Turnaround, 24/7

Citiprint has always been known for fast response and short lead times, and that doesn’t change in 2026.

We continue to operate as a 24/7 print and production facility, with:

  • Large stock holdings of boards and materials

  • Flatbed printing and finishing under one roof

  • The ability to react quickly to last-minute changes or urgent briefs

No outsourcing. No waiting on third parties. Just efficient, reliable production when it matters most.

Full In-House Delivery – From Small Drops to Major Exhibitions

Print is only half the job — getting it where it needs to be, on time and intact, is just as important.

That’s why we maintain a full in-house delivery fleet, including:

  • Small vans for quick Central London drops

  • Medium vans for multi-board and retail jobs

  • Luton vans with tail lifts for exhibitions, large signage, and heavy or oversized items

We regularly deliver to:

  • Exhibition venues

  • Offices and commercial buildings

  • Studios and production sites

  • Event spaces across London and beyond

Because it’s our own fleet, we can offer same-day delivery, early morning or out-of-hours drops, and direct-to-site service without relying on couriers who don’t understand deadlines.

Looking Ahead to Your Next Project

2026 is about working smarter, moving faster, and continuing to be a print partner clients can rely on when timing and quality really matter.

If you’ve got:

  • A project that needs precision cutting

  • An event or exhibition with a tight install window

  • A large-format job that needs careful handling and delivery

  • Or simply a deadline you can’t afford to miss

We’d love to help.

Sign Repair on Oxford Street for Asics

Oxford Street, in the heart of London, is famous for its high-end retail stores, bustling crowds, and iconic storefront signage. For many brands, the sign that hangs above their store is not just a piece of marketing but a symbol of their identity and presence. When Asics, the renowned athletic footwear and sportswear brand, encountered a sign issue on Oxford Street, they turned to our client who in turn contracted us at Citiprint, a sign repair company with an exceptional reputation for restoring iconic and specialist signage. In this blog post, we’ll explore how we repaired Asics’ sign on Oxford Street, showcasing our commitment to excellence and dedication to preserving the city’s vibrant commercial landscape.

The Sign Dilemma

Asics, a globally recognized brand for sports enthusiasts and athletes, had an issue with their signage on Oxford Street. The glass pane behind the large illuminated sign had been smashed during high winds, forcing a new glass pane to be produced. For the glaziers to swap the pane, the full sign lettering had to be removed, disconnected and made safe. For a brand that thrives on promoting an active lifestyle and pushing the boundaries of athletic performance, a faded and flickering sign was far from ideal.

The Challenge

Repairing signage on Oxford Street is no small feat. This bustling thoroughfare is known for its towering billboards and dazzling lights, making every storefront sign a vital piece of the visual spectacle. The challenge was to remove and replace Asics’ sign while preserving the integrity of the brand’s image, ensuring it remained a beacon for fitness enthusiasts and casual shoppers alike.

Citiprint’s Expertise

Citiprint has earned a stellar reputation for their expertise in sign repair and restoration. With a team of highly skilled professionals, they have successfully installed countless signs throughout London. We were contracted for our sterling reputation and their portfolio of impressive sign repair projects for large clients.

The Repair Process

  1. Initial visit: The first step was an overnight removal of the sign lettering, using scaffolding put in place by another contractor. The letter faces were inspected, removed and safely stored before the LED backlight were safely disconnected and plans made for rewiring upon completion.
  2. Interim: Citiprint stored and cleaned the signage whilst glass repairs were taking place. With our specialist fleet of install vehicles, the sign was transported safely to and from site.
  3. On-Site replacement: Following the replacement glazing, Citiprint installers returned to refit the sign, including the large steel frame which bolts into the shopfront, being cautious when working near the new glass panels.

The Result

Citiprint’s dedication to excellence and meticulous craftsmanship paid off. Asics’ sign on Oxford Street was reborn, radiating its vibrant colors and lighting up the night once more. The brand’s presence on this iconic shopping street was fully restored, and it continued to draw in shoppers, fitness enthusiasts, and fans of the brand.

Branded Underwear for Naked Breakfast at London in the Sky

Viewing London from 100ft can easily be both daunting and impressive at the same time but what about doing it totally naked?

Well, that’s what fundraisers for Coppafeel and Movember did recently at the all new London In The Sky at the O2.

We’ve had a large part to play in the launch of the 72 day opportunity to wine and dine up in the sky with the ticket office full wrap, table branding and more so to add 100 pairs of underwear into the mix was an absolute pleasure.
